A black and white picture of a girl in a tree. The low camera angle gives the viewer a ground perspective and forces them to look up to the girl in the tree. It gives her a sense of dominance over others. It is a medium distance shot because it is close to the girl, but still shows the environment she is in. It depicts the quiet empty woods with gentle sunlight peering in. A calming picture for viewers. Because the picture is black and white, it makes the woods seem quiet and gentle, and being empty it is peaceful. The girl seems to enjoy being alone in the peaceful nature and maybe feels a little powerful being up in a tree to enjoy her surroundings.
The first thing that strikes me in this picture is how calm it is. The black and white, I think, was chosen to make it seem muted and quiet, which makes me think of calmness. The girl standing in the crook of the tree isn't looking at the camera and it seems like she doesn't even realize the picture is being taken, so she isn't posing for us which makes me think that this is a really natural picture. The leading lines of the tree and the girl draw my eyes up from the bottom of the picture so the last thing I see is the girl's face, which the low angle gives the feeling of dominance. It kind of makes me think that the girl is more powerful than the photographer and the way the girl is leaning against the tree makes it seem like the theme of the picture is the cohabitation of people and nature.
To me when I first look at this picture the fact it is in black and white jumps out to me. Then my eyes go from the base of the tree up to the girl. Her expression makes the viewer pause on her face, she does not seem aware of the photographer and seems to be calm enjoying the nature surrounding her. I think the low camera angle gives the tree a more powerful feel versus the girl. Instead of her seeming powerful she seems at ease leaning on the tree. I agree with everyone about the black and white creating a calm feeling but it also seems like it would be very quite without much animal life.
This is a picture of a girl in a tree but that is only a portion on the whole picture, the majority is the sky and nature. The use of the medium shot makes me think that the girl or in general humans are small compared to the Earth we live on. Also, the fact that the girl is in the tree makes me feel like the girl has curiosity for all of the unknown it suggests harmony with nature. The low angle makes the girl and nature seem powerful because the girl is living in harmony with the nature.
